Jays ditch Towers
In a brilliant but long overdue move, the Jays sent Josh Towers down to the minors... I was wondering why he was still int he rotation with a 1 and 4 record, but they let him go until last night. He had a 1 and 8 record, with an ERA of 9.00 and finally, after only 1.2 innings and 4 more earned runs, he was gone. Jays manager John Gibbons had a reliever warming up after only 12 pitches last night, as he had absolutely no faith left in his starter.
My question is why it took them so long? In the American East division, with the Yankees and Red Sox, you have really got to win games to stay in the race. I think almost any Joe could beat a 1-8 (really a 1-9) record... A few of those games being wins under another pitcher could mean a tie with the Yankees, or even a better record...
I say good riddance Towers... have fun in Syracuse.
