Alberta... Proud to Live Here
There are a lot of reasons I don't like living in Alberta. Most of these are not actually anything to do with Alberta, rather they are things relatively beyond my control, such as the frigid winter weather and months of crummy snow, Ralph Klein, the Edmonton Oilers... or the Daines Country Music Picnic...
But I digress. I love the countryside. Within a few hours you can be driving in many different landscapes, from rolling wheat fields in the south, to pine covered foothills in the north. From the majesty and raw might of the Rocky Mountains to the flat lands in the east. We boast some of the most scenic National Parks in the country, and if you get a chance to see the Badlands, it is well worth it. The Royal Tyrrell Museum near Drumheller is a host of information on Dinosaurs, and there are many other awesome museums in both Calgary, Edmonton, and scattered throughout the Province.
There is just something about camping in Alberta. I like the Provincial campgrounds the most, as they are well maintained and supplied, and for a reasonable price, you get an actual treed spot, mostly concealed from your neighbours and the prying eyes of a plethora of squirrels... The smells of cookfires... Beef. Mmmm. Alberta beef is without a doubt, the BEST in the world. And when it is barbequed, there is nothing quite like it. The people are nearly always friendly, and it is great fun enjoying the lakes and rivers all over the province.
If you want to play softball, well Alberta has some of the biggest Slo-Pitch communities out there. Curling, hockey, golf. It is all here. This is the sort of place that folks come to from all over the world, for holidays or business alike!
This year marks our Centennial, and I am sure that soon, celebrations will be in full force. September 1st is the big day, and I will be watching to see if there is anything awesome to report on. So come and check us out. Before it gets cold again :D
